We have this confidence in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, we know that what we have asked him for is ours. ~ 1 John 5:14-15
Did you notice “according to his will?” Does this mean that I can pray for a new car, a new home or a million dollars? Great questions. After speaking with several amazing folks (ht, ls & gr) about this question I have gleaned the following:
God, our Father, much like our earthly father/mother answers our prayers in one of the following ways – Yes, No, Not now!
If His answer is Yes, we are golden! If his answer is No – trust that answer! His infinite will/wisdom/reason is far better than our finite desire/want/request. If His answer is not now, perhaps it is because what we ask for at this time is not appropriate for us or He is going to bring us something so much better. Perhaps, what He wants us to do has exactly zero to do with what we want to do and He is pointing us into the direction of His will.
I often struggle with what His will is for my life. So I pray for it, yes “it,” whatever it might be at that moment in time! That doesn’t mean that I should pray for Him to do everything for me, but I can and should pray for knowledge of His will in my life and the power to carry that out!
At this point in my life, God has me right where he wants me. If I continue to stay connected to him, praying and seeking His will… all will continue to be right and good in my life!
His will, not mine!
pax –
