happy almost birthday house of trent!
The Council of Trent meeting in Santa Maria Maggiore church, Trento (Trent). (Artist unknown; painted late 17th century.)
happy almost birthday house of trent???
At Holy Spirit Prep the students observe an Irish/British housing system. Each of the houses is named for an ecumenical council of the Catholic Church: Nicaea; Trent; Chalcedon & Lyon (council dates listed at the bottom of the post just in case you were/are curious).
In today’s reading from “The Little Black Book: Six-minute reflections on the Weekday Gospels of Lent” produced by the Diocese of Saginaw and offered to all parishioners of HSCC by the wonderful Knights Of Columbus #6517, it states the following:
“The Council of Trent was originally scheduled to begin on this day in 1545….But due to political tensions, the council was delayed until December 13.”
What might you ask does this have to do with today’s Catholics? Well at the conclusion of the council on 4 Dec 1563, a decree on fasts and feast days was promulgated!
One more tidbit about the Council of Trent, there was a succession five popes during this time (1545-1563) and none of them attended the council… they each sent delegates!
Have a fantastic day & happy almost birthday to the members of the “Blue House” aka House of Trent!!!
Peace,

As promised…
- First Council of Nicaea (325)
- Council of Chalcedon (451)
- Second Council of Nicaea (787)

- Council of Trent (1545-1563
