Today let’s chat about alternatives…

al·ter·na·tive

ôlˈtərnədiv
adjective
1. (of one or more things) available as another possibility.

This morning, like every morning, I get to chose the way I begin the day. So this morning I woke up early (I’m semi-retired… why the heck would I do that?) to walk with a friend.

As it turns out, after a recent doctors visit I was given news that I needed to make some changes for my health, so the decision was made to walk. Walking in an of itself is not horrible and couple that with being able to chat it up with a dear friend along the way is awesome! So for now, three days a week – unless there is lightning & thunder – I plan on walking

The funny thing about all of this is that this same dear friend posted “Wear the damn swimsuit” on Facebook that really got me thinking (here’s the link to the original post).

Life is full of alternatives and below are just a few that popped into my mind:

  • half empty or half full
  • chaos or serenity
  • meanness or kindness
  • misery or happiness
  • anger or peace
  • ugly or beauty
  • thinking like I old or young
  • faithless or faithfulness
  • everyday dishes or china
  • clean dishes/house or family time/creating memories
  • sitting on the sidelines or jumping in the middle

The list could go on an on, but the point I am trying to make is that those alternatives are always available to all of us (ok maybe everyone doesn’t own china.) We simply need to choose!

Here is an example of how some of these alternatives play out:

a) I can look at the glass half-empty, surround my self with chaos, be mean to people, sit in my misery, allow myself to be full of anger, look at all the ugly in life, whine about being older, live my life without faith – ugh!

-OR-

b) I can be grateful for a glass half-full, live in serenity (regardless of the chaos that surrounds me), be kind to everyone (especially my loved ones), search for peace, see the beauty all around me, live a life of faith/gratitude, use the good china, spend time creating memo
ries, jump in the middle of life.

Doesn’t “b” sound like a much better set of alternatives? Sure does to me!

Side benefit to getting up early, I find my day a little more productive, that I have a little more energy & I hope that these new “alternatives” will find me a bit healthier & perhaps a little lighter!

Wishing you Peace y’all!
